Disraeli Bridge Update

No Disraeli Bridge Closure During
Replacement !!
This
is a victory for the over 7060 people who have
expressed an opinion to me opposing the closure
of the Disraeli. Mayor Katz and Premier Doer have
listened and understand that closure is unacceptable.
The original April 08 plan
was to close the Disraeli Bridges, all 4 lanes
for 16 months for refurbishing. Now we will not
have 40,000 cars per day rushing through side
streets to get to single lane bridges like Redwood
or the Louise route from Transcona or the Watt
St. - Archibald route to St. Boniface.
If you are a driver that uses
any of these routes, not just the Disraeli, you
will not have to prepare for gridlock every day
and if you are a resident you will not have to
prepare for cars speeding down side streets and
back lanes.
My original proposal to stop
the closure of the Disraeli was to build a NEW
2 lane span on the east side & only when open
to traffic, then refurbish the old 4 lane bridge.
When done we would have 6 lanes - 3 each way -
the same number as Henderson Highway. This may
still be an option.
If this proposal makes sense
to you make your voices heard before its
too late. Fill out the ballot and return it to
me or vote here - only
one vote per person will be accepted. Feel free
to print this ballot and have all your friends
mail it or fax to my office. All interested Manitobans
qualify to vote.
