Jim Maloway Biography
- Just elected to Parliament in 2008, Jim Maloway has been representing the people in the provincial Elmwood portion of Federal Riding since 1986.
- Jim is a 24 year resident of Elmwood Transcona. He is married with 3 children and his eldest son is in the Canadian Forces.
- As a small business owner
Jim has led the development of Manitoba's
Bill 31, the most comprehensive legislation
of its kind in Canada. A consumer protection
Bill that early on looked at electronic
commerce. Part of this Bill includes amendments
that force Credit Card Companies to reimburse
Manitobans who purchase online and don’t
receive their products.
- As vice-chair of Manitoba's Public Accounts Committee he worked tirelessly to adopt the best ideas from other jurisdictions to make government more efficient and reduce costs.
- Jim is fighting locally to stop the closure of the Disraeli Bridge. He has also led a campaign to ensure that the bridge is constructed to the highest possible level with three lanes of traffic in both directions to help lessen the traffic congestion on Regent and Henderson. A fight that looks at the long term needs of Elmwood-Transcona.
- Jim continues the legacy of Bill Blaikie in fighting to ensure that jobs remain in our community, and that our Health care system is defended, and that the Conservatives are held accountable. Like Bill Blaikie, he will be a Strong voice in parliament for Elmwood Transcona.
- Jim has a degree in Political Science from the U of M and is the owner of Maloway & Eliason Insurance and travel Centre.
